First connected museum

Indoor geolocation to create connected and interactive museum in Parc Phoenix, a tropical museum in Nice.

Context

Museums visits tend to be noninteractive and often not suitable for people with disabilities. Most of the time, visitors are missing important information due to the limitations of the current solutions (static and not very evolutive panels, overpriced audio guides…). It is therefore a matter of creating a connected museum aimed at interacting with visitors. In order to ass value to the Parc Phoenix, the Métropole of Nice Côte d´Azur has launched a call for tenders. We responded by offering to enrich the visit with contextualized elements but also by providing users with richer content with photos and videos. This solution is also designed to support people with disabilities

Technologies

  • Android & iOS native mobile apps
  • Indoor geolocation
  • Bluetooth Low Energy

Solution

Visitors can download the app through a WIFI hotspot at the park entrance for free. The application is multilingual (FR, EN, IT) and does not require any internet connection or GPS signal.

iBeacons (based on Bluetooth Low Energy) are allocated into the park. It allows users to access automatically to information about the wonderful subjects of the park and to see the user location on the map, without Internet connectivity or GPS
